In honour of his contribution to Scottish art and education a Trust Fund has been set up in his name to make an award honour Archie’s invaluable contribution to Scottish art and education by funding awards to individuals or projects that promote the arts in South West Scotland.
The administration of the fund was passed to Archie’s nephews, Alan and John Watt together with nominated Trustees‚ Valerie Sadler and Dawn Henderby. The Trust is concentrating for the moment on fund raising and securing Charitable Status. Decisions on how the funds will be awarded are being discussed with advice from Archie’s friends and colleague‚ Hugh Bryden and Hazel Campbell. Watch this space for further details.
Archie at Bankend
Sat 24 May - Sun 1st June, daily 10am-5pm
The trustees of the Archie Sutter Watt Fund are delighted to present
an exhibition of the artist’s work at his home, ‘Bankend’,
in Kirkgunzeon, near Dumfries
Contrary to popular belief, the large studio in which Archie hosted
his annual Arts Festival exhibition and ran his enormously popular
art classes was not where he created the majority of his own work.
His personal painting studio, linked to his home on the other side
of the Bankend building, was where he worked indoors on his watercolour
landscape and still-life studies, and latterly, where he created
his drypoint etchings.
This exhibition offers a one-off opportunity to see and buy a selection
of framed and mounted artworks in their place of creation with a
special selection of editioned etchings available from £60.
All profits will go to continue the work of the Archie Sutter Watt
Trust Fund – a charitable body set up in 2005 to support education
in art for young people.

The Bankend Studio will be open as part of the Spring Fling Open
Studios event 24-26 May featuring the work of Photographer Mike
Bolam.
